There are some engagement sessions that are beautiful… and then there are sessions that feel like stepping into another world entirely.
Ashley and Will’s engagement session at Oakenfield Heritage Farm felt like something straight out of a romantic medieval film — complete with golden fields, soft sunset light, and yes… actual knight armor. And honestly? It was one of the most unique and unforgettable engagement sessions I’ve photographed.
While these two are incredibly private and intentionally stay off social media, they graciously allowed me to share a small glimpse into their session because it was simply too magical not to.
Ashley and Will met online, but according to Will, their first date almost never happened. Between canceled plans and long-distance logistics, Ashley was beginning to lose faith that they’d ever actually meet.
But Will drove two hours straight from work, threw together the best outfit he could on short notice, and made it happen.
Over pancakes, the nerves disappeared instantly.
He said he knew exactly the kind of woman Ashley was the moment she told him “no” the first time he asked for her number — and from that point on, he was hooked.
They officially started dating on New Year’s Eve 2022, which also happened to include their first kiss… and Ashley accidentally telling him she loved him for the very first time (which she says she’s still embarrassed about LOL).
Honestly? Their entire story feels soft, genuine, and deeply intentional — exactly like the way they interact with each other in real life.
Ashley and Will described themselves as “homebodies and quiet but goofy around each other,” and that could not have been more accurate during their session.
They have the kind of connection that doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.
The way Ashley looks at Will.
The way he instinctively reaches for her hand.
The way they laugh quietly between prompts.
It all felt incredibly natural and effortless.
One of my favorite things from their questionnaire was Will describing one of his fondest memories:
“During the most recent ice storm seeing her curled up in a chair by the fire with our dog and realizing I could spend an eternity there and never want anything more.”
Like… COME ON 😭
Ashley shared that one of the things she’s most excited for on their wedding day is seeing Will in his knight armor — and getting to hear him sing to her for the first time.
So naturally, incorporating the armor into their engagement session felt perfectly them.
Against the historic feel of Oakenfield Heritage Farm, the entire session took on this cinematic, old-world atmosphere. Between the textured architecture, open land, glowing sunset, and Will fully committing to the medieval aesthetic, it honestly looked like scenes from a fantasy romance novel.
And then golden hour showed up and absolutely understood the assignment.
Ashley & Will — thank you for trusting me with your story and for allowing me to share just a tiny piece of it here. Your session was pure magic.

Sessions like this are such a reminder that your engagement photos don’t have to look like anyone else’s.
They can reflect your personality, your story, your quirks, your favorite aesthetics, and the little things that make your relationship yours. Whether that means knight armor at sunset or cozy in-home photos with your pets, the best sessions are always the ones that feel authentic to you.
And Ashley and Will absolutely nailed that.
