As a photographer, documenting another photographer’s wedding comes with its own set of nerves — the good kind. Anna is a family and senior photographer here in Idaho, and when she reached out about capturing her backyard wedding in Eagle Idaho, I was genuinely honored. Her dad’s home was the perfect setting for their June celebration: relaxed, meaningful, and filled with the people they love.
Anna and John crafted a day that felt like them in every way. No wedding party. No big production. Just the two of them walking down the aisle together, which was such a powerful and intentional moment.
Before the ceremony, they shared a private first look and a few family portraits — nothing rushed, nothing forced. Just easy, natural, and calm.
Their flower girls, Catherine and Julia, led the way, followed by my personal favorite detail: their “ringbear” — a golden retriever friend wearing tiny bear ears and carrying the rings. It was adorable and such a fun, personal touch.
Their actual ceremony lasted just about fifteen minutes under the backyard trees — short, heartfelt, and exactly right for them.
During the reception, Anna and John grabbed their instruments and performed together as a band. Guests cheered, and their nieces danced around them — easily one of the standout moments of the day. When a couple brings their own talent and personality into their reception like that, it elevates everything.
They skipped the traditional bouquet toss and did a stuffed animal toss instead, which could not have been more “them” in the best way.
With family coming in from different states, group photos mattered. We took our time with them — nothing stiff or overly posed — and I could tell those images will be cherished for a long time.
We snuck out briefly for golden hour portraits, and the light was perfect. Quiet. Genuine. Exactly the kind of moments I love capturing.

A backyard wedding gives couples freedom, comfort, and the ability to create something deeply personal without the pressure of a formal venue.
