There are some wedding days that just stick with you — and Lauren & Colby’s fall wedding at Still Water Hollow is one I won’t ever forget. Not just because it was beautiful (and it truly was the most perfect sunny fall day), but because it was a sentimental one for me personally.

Lauren and I connected early on in the planning process when she shared that she had lost her dad. I lost mine too, so that’s a bond you don’t have to explain. It made the entire day feel even more meaningful, and I knew I wanted to honor every moment for her — especially the ones that were hard, sacred, quiet, and threaded with love.

A Perfect Fall Day at Still Water Hollow

The morning started at Still Water Hollow, where both Lauren and Colby arrived for getting-ready photos. The venue was soaked in warm fall light — the kind photographers dream of! Everything ran on time (mostly, lol, I’m great at making up time!), the wedding party was relaxed and easygoing, and the fall decor they chose fit the venue perfectly: navy, cinnamon spice, and classy rustic touches that blended right into the season.

The Sweetest First Look

Lauren and Colby chose to do a private first look with just the two of them — and it was the sweetest. Colby’s reaction was everything. You could see the love, the excitement, the “this is really happening” moment all at once. They are an outdoorsy, travel-loving couple, and the peaceful Still Water Hollow grounds were the perfect backdrop for their portraits.

Honoring Her Dad in the Most Meaningful Ways

This is where the day hit me right in the heart.

Lauren didn’t do a first look with her dad — because he passed in April 2024 — but she honored him in every way possible.

She had a seat saved for him at the ceremony and again at the reception. A simple, powerful tribute.

During the reception, she shared a special dance with her brother that represented the dance she would’ve had with her dad. And yes — I was crying behind my camera the entire time. It was impossible not to.

There were also quiet moments with her mom throughout the day that were so tender and real. As a photographer who knows what it’s like to live these wedding moments without a dad, I felt the weight of it with her. And I truly hope I captured those memories with the care they deserved.
